At Roth Elder Law we work with a wide range of professionals in Corning and the surrounding areas. We find that a strong relationship between attorney and advisor positions the client for the best possible outcome in multiple scenarios such as comprehensive New York estate planning, New York elder law planning and even New York probates. Together, we can form the team the clients need.
Over the years, we have seen the results of a lot of estate planning – both good and bad. Lately, it seems like the results of that planning is often more bad than good. The reasons for this are many. Some people may be trying to do it themselves or wanting to save money by trying an online or other discount options. Some people think all documents are the same or even all attorneys are basically the same. Not only is this thinking wrong, but believing it or acting on it can lead to disastrous results (both financially and emotionally). Too often I have seen when people are trying to save money, they are only looking at the short term and in the end it results in even higher costs overall.
To give you an example, we recently did a survey of the estate and trust administration files we are currently working on, and the results were shocking, even to us. We found that out of the 37 current administration files we have open, 32 of them have had (or are having) some sort of problem during the administration. And not just a small snag, but most were major issues for the beneficiaries or families of the decedent. That’s more than 85% of the open cases. (Please note, most of these were not estate plans we prepared.) Because of this high number, we wanted to see if these problems could be prevented, and if so, how.
The main thing we discovered? By working with you and our shared clients now to get them the representation they need!
Of course, we also are very aware of the impact that Covid-19 and the resulting pandemic has had on each of our businesses. None of the business professionals we have spoken to and worked with throughout 2020 has been left without at least some change to their business structure, client relationships, or how they generate new business. We understand these challenges, as we have experienced them as well, and have solutions for working with you as well as with your clients.
Let’s discuss how we can work together to make it happen, no matter what is going on. You can call us at 607-962-6162 or click this link to fill out our Advisors Contact Form below.
To expand on what we discussed above, we believe many of the issues encountered could be prevented with better planning up front. This is why we started Roth Elder Law’s Monthly Insights. Although this is meant to be educational, we also want it to be fun. More than that though, we wanted to create something that will not only help your clients (by giving them the information they need to help them avoid many of the mistakes we see everyday), but help you so you become even more of a trusted advisor to your clients. Additionally, we want to include discussions on topics and planning techniques which will help you improve your bottom line (and who doesn’t want that?).
We are firm believers that we tend to work with people we know, like and trust. With as busy and complicated as the world is today (both personally and professionally), it can be hard to find the time to really get to know others and build this rapport. This is another reason why we launched this as a recurring event. We hope as many people as possible can attend so that over time you can network and get to know others who may be in a position to help you and your clients. One of our main goals is to help you build a team of professionals so you can better serve your clients and further cement your status as your client’s trusted advisor.
Of course, Covid-19 changed how we do things with Roth Elder Law’s Monthly Insights. While we currently cannot hold monthly events, our goals remain the same.
Our goal, when we started in Summer 2017, was to make sure everyone is on the same page with their knowledge base. This is why we started with a few basic topics (which surprisingly make up a large number of the mistakes we see). Our first topic of discussion was on the Last Will and Testament. From there we moved into Probate and the Probate Process and next the New York Durable Power of Attorney. The great news is that even with the pandemic, our materials are still here for you to use!
Through Roth Elder Law’s Monthly Insights we are able to provide key information on the topic in a format you can take with you! This is a one-page handout that is written in plain English so you can pass it along to your clients Handouts from our previous Monthly Insights Events are available right here for you to download. Just click on the topic you are interested in from Roth Elder Law. And, we will let you know when we are able to resume in-person meetings for Roth Elder Law’s Monthly Insights.
We also encourage you to let us know what education or legal training you and your clients need. Want to have a virtual workshop for The Sandwich Generation Caregiver? Need more information on the dangers of DIY legal planning? Need someone to bounce ideas off of or who can really help your clients right now? Let’s discuss how we can work together to make it happen, no matter what is going on. You can call us at 607-962-6162 or click this link to fill out our Advisors Contact Form below.
